P3

a) Written Communication

For Unit 60, I wrote a game review for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. In this review, I learnt how to follow a structured plan in my paragraphs. I worked hard on this review, doing lots of research beforehand as I searched for the best way to write a review.

I would say that I have strong written communication skills. I enjoy going in depth on a subject, dissecting all the information to prove my point across. I always make sure that my punctuation and grammar is correct and that there are no spelling mistakes in my work. As you can see above, I have experience in script writing, powerpoints, reviews and analysing. I also have experience with lots of pre production documents such as Budgets, Risk Assessments and Production Schedules. If I could improve on my written communication, I would say that I often tend to go off topic sometimes, leading to long paragraphs. I ideally want to get my points across in a to the point manner rather than an explanation being too long.

b) Verbal Communication

From my Media course:
Unit 20 Podcast:

In this podcast, I worked very hard. This was the first Unit I did, and I exceeded my expectations when it came to talking to a microphone and editing in Adobe Audition. I managed to produce a high quality podcast, talking about a game I liked to play. I recorded vox pops, which required me to go out and record random people, asking them questions about the game. Furthermore, I recorded an interview, where I spoke to a guest with more in depth questions.

Outside my Media course:

I work in a bar as a bartender, which requires a lot of teamwork and clear communication. This type of job relies on strong teamwork and clear communication to others. I also work as a waiter which requires concentration and good verbal communication to the customers to get their orders correct, along with good planning.

My verbal communication skills are good, as I have worked on multiple products which require strong communication to others. For example, short films, podcasts and radio shows which invloved lots of arrangement and I always made sure that each member was completing the correct tasks to a high quality.

c) Practical Production

This is the sci-fi corridor I made in Maya. This demonstrated my ability to learn a program quickly, because I had never used Maya before. I enjoyed creating a 3D environment as I could take a concept from paper, and make it into a 3D object that you can interact with in the animation. With the animation, the character walks through the corridor, knocking over an object, opening a door, which leads into a room with a solar system model. The barrel that was knocked over showed what I could do with animation, along with the solar system model with the planets slowly spinning.

I also made a 3D character in MAYA and animated it:

This poster I made in one of my units showed my creativity, demonstrating my skills in Photoshop. Firstly, I came up with the idea of a hacker, which I liked so I did many different concepts. To do this, first I did a photo shoot with one of my friends, and I picked the best photos. Once I decided the best one, I used that image for the poster. This demonstrates that I can take an idea in my head and work on producing the idea.

Outside my Media course:

App Store trailer I made for a company:

This trailer is a video I made for a company outside of college. I managed to create a 3D phone, record my own gameplay, and snap the screen onto the 3D model showing aspects of the game. I enjoyed making this, as I got to use a range of Adobe products such as After Effects, Premiere Pro and Photoshop.

Above a few examples where I have worked well in regards to practical production. I have a strong talent at video editing in programs such as Premiere Pro and After Effects, as I often work with clients outside of college to produce video trailers. In my media course, I used programs such as MAYA to create a 3D environment or Character, which showed my skills using this program. In order to improve my skills in this area, I need to work faster in my work, learning shortcuts in programs to help me reach tight deadlines, especially outside of media with paid work.

D) Creativity

Here is a pitch for a film idea I had:

This is the title card for my film:

I have strong creativity skills, such as coming up with my own story, or my own vision on a concept I want to create. I am familiar at generating and developing ideas for film projects, however, I want to improve on my knowledge of what succeeds in the game industry - such as why a game succeeds.
